After many years as a performer and Teacher I decided to set up The Acting Crew. I wanted to create a group which is fully inclusive and where children could come along and take part in drama no matter what their ability. I have seen the many benefits drama has given to children with SEN ; such as improved social skills ( speech and communication) , Sensory Integration , Physical Strength/Co-ordination/Agility, Confidence/Assertiveness, Behaviour Modification, Coping Strategies and Self Discovery. All this alongside learning a new skill that isn’t playing on the computer or tablet and still having plenty of fun along the way!
I believe that not everything should be based on academic achievement, but rather a holistic view of the child should be considered, for them to be given the same opportunities and celebrating their achievements whatever they may be.
We live in a diverse society and I think it is important to embrace that in a positive way. Believe in what you do is the mission statement for The Acting Crew as all children/young people should believe in themselves and know they are unique and have something special to offer .
